Legal Fees for Evan

Hey Everyone,
I am Mickie Thomas, Evan powers aunt.
Most of you know the fun loving eight year old little man.  He is my sister Peggy's son.  While my sister tries very hard to give Evan the best life possible and keep him safe it's not always been easy.  Not many people know but Peggy and Evan have a hard past that my sister has fought very, very hard to overcome.  She has always tried her best to keep it hidden to move on to a normal life peacefully.
But things have gotten far worse to the point we all fear for Evan and her safety. She has sunk $12,000+ dollars to date in legal fees trying to keep her son safe but the fathers "deep pockets"(his words) and loop holes in the justice system are fighting against her. We all know Peggy would never ask for help so I'm doing it for her! She might not show it guys but she is emotionally and physically drained.
Peggy married Evans father in 2011 shortly after he started abusing her. Our family started seeing signs of the abuse. She was treated for injuries twice that we know of before she made the decision to leave. When I say treated we have no idea how many times it truly happened that she kept secret. Since then this man has terrorized her almost non stop. She moved an hour away, started a new job and a new life to get peace. The Missouri court forced her to co-parent 50/50 with her abuser  doing VERY little to help ease the abuse, since 2015 this has been going on. That's 5 years guys 5 years!!!! plus the abuse started early 2012 that's a  total of 8 years of constant  harassment.
In Feb 2020 Peggy got a call from Evans father accusing her of calling Children's services screaming at her.  At the time my sister had no idea what was going on. She called Children's Division the  next morning and they informed her that the fathers home was being investigated for abuse with a "horse whip".( Picture attached of the whip the father and stepmom admitted to using).   At the time this was determined to be used on the other child in the home, the other child went to school and told her teacher what was happening the teacher hotlined the issue.  After Evan was asked about this we were SHOCKED he confirmed that both children had been hit on the back ,arms, legs, and bottom with a literal  "horse whip".  We all knew Evan's father had a temper and a history of hurting people but never thought it would have went to this extreme with children.  A restraining order was issued and Evan is now going threw supervised visits  with his father.  In court both Evans father and his new wife ADMITTED to purchasing and using the horse whip on the children sometime in 2019! Evan was removed from the fathers custody. However, the Children's division has failed both these children, leaving one in the home during this pandemic without the ability to tell someone like she did with the teacher since school has been cancelled.  Peggy has quietly been fighting her heart out for these children so something is done to protect them.  The father has hurt MANY people particularly women in the past and despite multiple restraining orders and start of charges he uses his "deep pockets" and good attorneys to wiggle his way out of it every time.
Today 7/22/2020 the fathers attorney was able to utilize a loop hole to get the restraining order dropped.  Which also removes this from his record!!! This man and his new wife admitted to hitting children with a horse whip!!! Since it is the law Peggy has been offered an opportunity in the Missouri Court of Appeals in St.Louis to keep her son safe.  The legal fee to start this is $5000 to be paid within 10 days. Crazy right!!!
If we can't do this him and his new wife will get away with what they have done.
We may or may not win but there is other children in the same situation that this case needs heard for in order for the state of Missouri to listen. This needs to be documented and pursued or the system will never improve.

Even if you can't help financially your thoughts and prayers are enough or come to court, write a letter, anything helps.
My sister is not looking for a handout and would never ask for help so I am for her! She is very determined to start helping change this system for other children and families dealing with abuse.

Thank you  all for anything you can do to help!
