Jed's Journey

Can you imagine being starved, living in excruciating pain and then being abandoned by the only family you have ever known? Sadly, this was Jed’s reality before he found his way to Ollie’s Legacy Incorporated. At only six months old Jed has had nothing short than a terrible start to life. He was the last puppy from a litter of backyard bred dogs who no one wanted and when his unscrupulous “owners” couldn’t sell him they dumped him at a rural pound. When Jed arrived in our care we were shocked at his condition. He was extremely underweight to the point we could see every rib throughout his battered body and was so terrified he couldn’t walk. Despite this he crawled on his belly to his rescuers who showered him with love and when he started to gain confidence it became apparent that he had a significant issue with his back left leg. Although he was whimpering in pain and in obvious discomfort he still wanted to play with the other dogs in his foster home and soak up as much love as possible from his carers.

In the time that has followed Jed has had radiographs taken under anaesthetic and diagnosed as having a fractured tibial crest which requires pinning through orthopaedic surgery. In layman’s terms a part of his knee is fractured. To allow Jed to live the life he deserves he needs urgent surgery, sadly the only other alternative is euthanasia to relieve him of his pain. Jed’s specialist and veterinarian have significantly reduced the cost of the surgery and understand our situation and have quoted us $4000. We have managed to scrape together a deposit, but we are a long way short of the full amount.

I am going to be completely transparent. As a tiny rescue group, we simply do not have this type of money. Due to financial limitations, we steer away from big cases like Jed’s and focus our resources on more straightforward ones. However, with each animal we rescue we make a commitment to them and do everything we can to keep our word. We are trying to do the same with Jed however by helping him it significantly affects our ability to help other animals in need. We are so worried because kitten season has only just started, and pounds are overflowing with cats and dogs needing help and we just can’t do it without financial assistance.

Jed has been through so much in his short life and has seen the worst of people. He now deserves to see the best and we are hoping that as a community we can come together and raise the money for Jed’s second chance. Over the coming weeks we will be launching several fundraising initiatives but for now we have set up a GoFundMe with the hope of helping Jed as soon as possible.

We are extremely grateful for any amount you can spare, even $5 is a big help.
