Henley Ann was born on 3/1/22, her parents are Jason and Hannah Wawczak. On 3/2 she was airlifted to Iowa City Hospital NICU, diagnosed with pneumonia and pneumothorax- the main goal right now is to get the infection and air pockets under control which can take weeks. Henley is still in Bay 1 which is considered most critical care in the NICU. We were told today by the provider that we will need to get to use to this place which we already had in our minds as the next few months this will be our second home.
Henley is on her second breathing machine which helps her take shorter breaths but more frequently rather than large breaths that open and shut the lungs like an adult. Baby girl has numerous tubes which doesn’t allow us to hold her but we know she is comfortable with the pain medications she is currently on- I’ve been told the chest tube she has to relieve the air pocket is very uncomfortable as it rubs on her ribs when she breaths and just the opening of the hole itself.
Jason and I are trying to find a new routine that will work for our family where we are home with the littles and spending time at the NICU. We are so blessed to have an amazing family who is helping watch the kids and pups during this time and we couldn’t be more thankful!! We are only about 30 minutes from the hospital and able to head home to sleep/shower and see the family every night ❤️. Keep thinking of us- we appreciate all the love being sent our way.
