Essence Derouen was a twenty-one year single mother to a six year old son  Khalyl Crawford. She was pursuing a degree in Culinary Arts. Essence was a hard working young woman who enjoyed life and providing for her son. She was tragically shot and killed on March 19, 2017 in a senseless act of violence.
