Saturday, March 11, 2017, Captain Daniel Steele of the Augusta Fire Department and his family were the victims of a terrible house fire that ravaged their home and destroyed most of their belongings. The family was able to escape to safety, but after watching their home burn down in front of them, despite the fine efforts of Columbia County Fire Rescue, they are now faced with the uphill battle of collecting what's left of their lives and putting the pieces back together. Captain Steele has been a committed firefighter for over twenty years and has sat on the boot drive committee for several years collecting thousands of dollars for Muscular Dystrophy. He has given of himself every third day his entire adult life without ever asking for as much as a thank you. In the wake of this tragic event, we now have an opportunity to help one of own. It's our turn to take care of Captain Steele and his family the same way he has spent his entire career taking care of us. All the money donated here will go toward helping Daniel and his family get back on their feet. Every penny helps and no amount is to small. Captain Steele has dedicated his life to being in the service of others and It only makes sense that his community and fellow firefighters be there for him in his time of need. Any fireman or victim of a fire can tell you, the house fire itself is only the beginning of a long hard journey back to normalcy. It's going to be a day to day struggle for the Steele family and this fund is a small way to not only help them through the days ahead but to show our gratitude for everything he has done for us. We got you, Cap.
