Hi Everyone!
Thanks for making it to my page! Education Rocks is an amazing student sponsorship program in which American students raise money to support Balinese children financially so that they too can go to school and get an education. It’s not just about giving them money though. We get to build a relationship with these kids, by sending them letters and gifts each month and receiving the same back. My story with Ed Rocks began freshman year, and at the time, I really didn’t know what it was all about and only knew I would get service hours at the end of the year. As I started to become pen pals with a 13 year old boy named Dewa Putu Gede Yoga Prastika (Yoga for short), I became fascinated with him and overjoyed with just how much he was so grateful for my sponsorship. His letters warmed my heart as I began to befriend and care about a kid that lived across the globe. We wrote letters back and forth, and at the end of every month, I got to learn a little more about him. For instance, he enjoys playing soccer just like me and his favorite players are Messi and Ronaldo. Throughout the years, I have learned more and more about Yoga, and seen him go through many different stages of his life. Junior year, I decided I wanted to get more involved to have a bigger impact than just one child and applied for the executive board. I then became the Activity Chaiman. Really being a part of something that is bigger than myself is very humbling. This upcoming year, my senior year, I will be the Senior Chairman. Therefore, I am trying to make a big impact with the organization that is growing far and wide, all across the country. I am trying to raise $5000 to not only make a difference in Yoga’s life, but also the entire community surrounding him. These kids are some of the happiest I have ever seen, while living in below average living conditions. With this money, we will be able to pay for Yoga’s schooling (which is $365), sponsor other kids, as well as buy tons of beds ($200 each) for many other Balinese children who sleep on the ground of the shacks that they live in. Any donation would be greatly appreciated and can really make a difference.
Thank you so much for your time and contribution!
Sincerely,
Jacqueline DiGiorgio
