Lindsay had emergency abdominal surgery in the middle of the night July 28th. She was in severe abdominal pain and vomiting. With a CT scan , she was found to have intestinal malrotation and complete blockage. This rare condition is potentially life-threatening, so it required immediate and very risky, invasive surgery.
The on-call surgeon drove to the hospital, cut her from sternum to belly button and was able to untwist her intestine in time to avoid permanent damage. Her abdomen was sutured closed and she was placed on antibiotics and a nasogastric tube to prevent things from going into her stomach. After 6 days of hospitalization and intense pain, her GI system regained functionality.
She is now recovering at home with the help of her Mom and Dad who were able to fly out and offer support. She's very tired and still in pain which is slowly decreasing. Unfortunately, there is no permanent fix for this condition and there is a risk this could recur.
Now she has quite a large hospital bill, and although insurance will cover much of it, there will be a large out of pocket burden. Any funds donated will go directly towards Lindsay's medical bills. If you are unable to make a monetary donation we appreciate a kind thought, words, inspirational quote to help lift her spirits.
We cannot thank the doctors, nurses, and other caregivers enough while Lindsay was hospitalized and throughout her ongoing follow-up care.
Thank you for your generosity,
Rob (Lindsay's partner)
