Face Shields for Front-Line Healthcare Personnel
Donation protected
We are currently experiencing unprecedented events due to the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic as well as the shortage of adequate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for healthcare personnel. In this situation they are one of our most valued resources, but without proper PPE they cannot keep themselves safe while treating the infected. As statistics in Italy and the rest of Europe have shown, frontline healthcare professionals have an extremely high risk of COVID-19 infection. If a healthcare professional is infected the patient pool not only increases, but the amount of people with the ability to treat the infected decreases, disadvantaging us even more. This is not a risk we are able to take in our current situation, with 92 confirmed cases and 4 deaths in Whatcom County (As of Friday, March 27, 2020 @ 12:00 pm) we can only expect more critical cases.
In attempt to combat the shortage of PPE (with resupplies arriving, at best, multiple weeks out) we have developed a cheap, simple, and customizable face shield that can be produced in Bellingham right now. A face shield is one of the key pieces of PPE used to combat the spread of COVID-19 in the healthcare environment. As COVID-19 is spread via mucus droplets in the air; the eyes, nose, and mouth are easy access points to the body. A face shield will help provide another layer of protection in addition to the approved masks and eye protection that will still be worn underneath the shield. The implementation of face shields is also universally supported by those on the front line.
Our goal is to produce and deliver 1000 shields to frontline hospital staff as well as first responders, testing sites, and clinics in our community. The purpose of this crowdfunding campaign is to support the purchases of the materials to build the face shields. Absolutely no portion of these funds will be taken as profit. All donations will be used to create shields that will then be donated to healthcare personal free of charge.
Any funds remaining after construction of the original 1000 shields will be used to:
1. Purchase more materials to make more shields
2. Help fund additional local efforts to supply PPE to local healthcare professionals
3. Assist the Bellingham Food Bank
At trying times like this it is important to band together to help protect our frontline medical providers, the soldiers on the frontlines of this war. Treat them like the heroes they are and pitch in. Any amount can make a difference.
Stay safe, stay healthy, wash your hands, and stay six feet apart!
