Assistance With My Brain Tumor
Donation protected
On November 14th 2024 I was informed that I have a 0.7cm Microadenoma inside my pituitary gland. The pituitary gland is a 1cm organ inside of the brain that produces several hormones, including prolactin. Prolactin is the primary hormone that my tumor has been affecting that has been causing my severe symptoms.
I am scheduled to see an Endocrinologist out of town on December 9th 2024 to discuss the treatment plans. There are two main types of treatment methods for this type of brain tumor, which are; medication or surgery.
For medications I could be on a drug to regulate my hormones and shrink the tumor for the rest of my life. If this option is selected I will most likely have to do yearly or even bi-yearly check ups with either the Endocrinologist or Brain Surgeon to monitor the tumor's status, which could also include yearly MRI's.
However, because my symptoms are more advanced and my prolactin levels are so high, we may decide to take the surgery route. Prior to the surgery I may possibly have to meet with several specialists, including, but not limited to; the Endocrinologist, a Brain Surgeon, and an ENT (all of which are located out of town). The surgery will most likely be done through my nose where they will cut open a portion of my skull and remove the tumor. The recovery period for this surgery could be anywhere from 3 weeks to several months depending on how well it goes and how complicated it gets.
I am creating this GoFundMe because I live in a small town in the middle of nowhere Canada where I have to drive at least 4 hours to each appointment (2 hours there, 2 hours back). Depending on how many specialists I have to see, how many appointments I have to make, and how many MRI's I have to do all directly affect how many times I have to travel out of town. I don't have a car either so for all of these appointments I will be receiving help from friends and I want to be able to pay for gas, meals, and possible lodging depending on my appointments. I will also most likely be put on a slew of medications no matter which treatment plan we decide on, many of which I am uncertain of the potential costs. A lot of medications are covered in Canada but there are also still a bunch that aren't and because these will be specific medications I am uncertain of their cost. Even after the tumor is removed, depending on how much it has damaged my pituitary gland, I could possibly need to be on hormone therapy medications for the rest of my life.
To summarize, the things I am looking for assistance with;
- Travel expenses (including gas, lodging, follow-up appointments with specialists out of town, and amenities.)
- Temporary medications and long-term medications
- Any unforeseen or sudden situations
