Our Students
Our 8th graders work all year to build the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in high school and, eventually, to matriculate to college. In Houston's Northside neighborhood, about 8% of adults have a college degree. Likewise, 96% of our studens receive free or reduced lunch. We are Title I School, a classifiation that indicates a high-poverty. Our students achieve extraoridinary things - In 2016, more than 85% of our graduates went on to a four-year college or University
Our Trip
After year of hard work and resilience, eighth grade at our school culminates in a trip through the American South. For many of our students, school trips are their only opportunity to experience the world outside of our corner of Houston. In addition to several college visits, the trip incorporates opportunities to experience how the subjects they've studied exist in the real world.
The trip focuses on the American Civil Rights movement. We pass through New Orleans, Montgomery, Birmingham, Atlanta, and Selma. On each stop our students engage with the rich history each American city has to offer.
We need your help in order make sure that students, many of whom rarely have the opportunity to leave Houston, have an amazing experience to finish their 8th grade year.
