My name is Rose Gregorio, and I’m a longtime volunteer at the Shelter here in Sunnyvale, California. Homeless men, women, and children now find refuge at our shelter throughout the year. Most of these children have parents or a parent who has jobs or (lost their jobs )and cant afford to pay their rents. Otherssimply just can't afford a place to live.
In addition to adults, the shelter currently houses 19 kids, ages 5-16 years old. And there are also 5 babies at the shelter now. Of the 5 babies, one of the youngest is a little girl who was first there as a 1-month-old, and she just became a 1-year-old.
The other night a dad at the shelter asked if I could get a ticket for his son to go to Great America - the amusement park here in Santa Clara county.
I reached out to my neighbors and within 2 hours I was able to raise some money AND 4 free tickets for Great America - so both kids in that family could go - and both parents could be there to keep an eye on their kids. I gave it to the dad with my instructions not to tell anyone. I always try to be discreet when I help someone at the shelter, because I can only do so much.
But it's impossible to keep that kind of news quiet when you have an excited kid looking forward to a trip to Great America, so the news traveled fast. Not long after I gave the tickets to that dad, several moms and a dad came to me and asked whether I had any more tickets. They wanted to do something nice for their kids too.
I want to send the 19 kids (ages 5-16 years old) and their parents to Great America before it closes on Halloween. The kids will have an experience which Im sure they wont forget and they can share with friends and classmates, and forget about being homeless for a while.
Hoping for your kind generosity, thank you.
