Dear World, My name is Michele Renée Williams. I am an opera singer who pretends to lead a simple ordinary life by day as a phlebotomist! Although I don't fall amongst the status of Renee Fleming or Joyce DiDonato yet....I aspire to be. So imagine my feelings regarding this amazing opportunity granted to me! This summer I will be a featured artist with the Pittsburgh Festival Opera. I will take on the role of Waters in the world premiere of 'A Gathering of Sons'! It is a social justice project written by Tameka Cage Conley and Dwayne Fulton. I already feel deeply connected to this piece and I've only read the libretto! While thrilled about this opportunity to learn and grow as an artist, I could really use your help. This program is approximately two months. Unfortunately, my place of employment will not hold my position for that amount of time without medical reasoning. In short, I will be resigning in May so that I may take hold of this amazing opportunity. As a featured artist, I am responsible for my tuition plus room and board, totalling approx. $1,250. I am also responsible for my travel expenses, meals, clothing etc while I am there. I am trying to reach a goal of $2,500. I believe this goal would be sufficient funding for me to comfortably enjoy my time in Pittsburgh soaking up all the knowledge that I can in order to become the best artist that I can be.
