Roger Grotton and his family need our help with some financial assistance during a difficult time. Saturday while just having some innocent summer fun with friends he suffered a tragic injury. While diving into the pool, he had sustained a neck injury. Fortunately someone jumped in and saved him from drowning. We learned that he had hit his head and lost all feeling from the waist down and partially in his arms and hands. Paramedics promptly came and brought him to Maine General in Augusta and then he had to be shipped to Maine Med in Portland. He had fractured his neck and immediately underwent a 5 hour surgery. He was in good spirits and witty on Sunday trying to be strong for his wife, daughter, son and close family members. He is currently sedated and on a ventilator because he was struggling breathing because of swelling and phlegm building up. The doctors believe he will be like this for about the next 3 days, until they can reassess. Roger has no medical insurance and him and his wife are both out of work for obvious reasons. He will be in the hospital for however long this takes for proper healing (over a month indefinitely). Once he leaves there he will be sent to a rehabilitation living facility because he will have a long road to recovery. The goal we are all hoping and praying for is that this young man will walk again! As of right now the doctors aren't sure. Roger is strong and we believe he can do it. He is a fun, silly and kind guy. The type of guy that helps people just because. Now it's our time to help make sure him and his family can get through this tough time.
