Hello! I’m Skye and I’m a trans person fundraising for gender-affirming care. I’m a music writer, journalist and enthusiastic (but messy) home cook. I’d love the chance to do the things I love in a body I feel more at home in.
It’s an incredibly difficult time for trans people at the moment, and while I would of course rather make use of the NHS Services which should be available to all, that’s not been possible. I’ve been on the waiting list at the Adult Gender Identity Clinic at Sandyford for nearly five years, without even an initial appointment to discuss how I’m feeling. First attempting to access this service in my early twenties, I did essentially what you’re ‘supposed’ to do, but I now have reached a point where accessing this care privately is the only option.
I’m really lucky to have a great support system of friends and family around me. Some of them suggested I set up a fundraising page, as the cost of private care is unfortunately far out of reach for me at the moment. This is a daunting and very public-facing step, and It is with great humility that I ask for your help.
The goal of this fundraiser is set at what I expect to pay for a year of gender-affirming care, including therapy. I will be self-funding a good chunk of this, and whatever I am able to raise would be a massive help. If the fundraiser exceeds this goal, I will give directly to other fundraisers for gender-affirming care.
