Long Road to Recovery :(
Donation protected
Sat morning I received the terrible news that no one ever wants to hear about a loved one, my baby brother, his wife and 3 sons (Enrique age 4, Emi age 7 and Eduardo age 8) had been in a tragic car accident. By the time I had spoken to my brother they had already endured having to wait over an hour for emergency vehicles while sitting in the rain with severe lacerations and head trauma.
As some of you know, we lost my other younger brother to a car accident in years prior. As I begin to relive the emotional roller coaster I ask “Is everyone Ok?” The boys are in really bad shape!" was my brother's response through the loud sounds of sirens. "We are on our way to Yuma hospital in 3 ambulances."
Hours go by with no communication. By evening, I'm told the whole family got air vacced back to Phoenix Childrens because Yuma did not have the resources/specialists to care for Emi and Eduardo's injuries.
Before nights end, the day of the accident, both boys had emergency surgery on their head and my sister in law was admitted to St Joes.
Emi under went a 2nd surgery to his back to correct his spinal chord and to place pins into his vertebrae.
Eduardo spent his 8th birthday in the hospital and is now walking. Emi with physical therapy is now beginning to sit up.
We have been blessed in the fact that they are all still here with us and there has been progress made but as you can imagine the overall road to recovery is going to be a long one. Future surgeries are still in the forecast and even once the body is healed, the mental and emotional trauma will linger for some time to come especially with the little ones.
I am going against my brothers wishes to set up a Go Fund me account but I strongly believe that any help that I am able to gather on their behalf will be a great help to ensure that the boys continue to get the treatment they need once they are released from the hospital for future surgeries, counseling etc... The amount of medical bills that are amounting is well beyond what the insurance coverage of the other driver will cover.
Hold your loved ones tight, you truly never know what tomorrow holds :(
No amount is too small. I thank you all in advance for the love and support!
