Lucifers story

Lucifer is a 5 year old black cat seeking financial support for his veterinary bills.

I found lucifer on a Facebook marketplace advert in 2020. The owner at the time had recently homed him and found he wasn’t getting on well with her children (he was about 12 weeks old) I met her outside and was passed lucifer through the window of her car, no food, no bowls, not even in a carrier. I took him inside and cuddled him and very soon it became prevalent he has conjunctivitis. I took him to the vet, registered him, paid for the consultation and medication. Not long later he was registered for the Vac4Life plan.

DISASTER STRIKES

I notice blood in his urine. He’s yowling, barely eating. I take urine tests and am advised by the vet this is probabaly going to be lifelong, it’s common in black male cats, and to put him on a hills prescription urinary care diet. I happily do this at home and continue with medication given by the vet. It clears up. I tried to apply for insurance, but this is classed as a pre existing condition. I have tried over the 5 years of his life with every and all services to find an insurance. None would accept him. I later get him microchipped and spayed as he begins showing signs of spraying and wanting to mate (his poor adopted sister had to bare that for a short time)

2024 another flare up. It clears with medication, crisis averted.

2025 March 19- disaster strikes, again. But this time it’s worse. Every 5 minutes he’s squatting, he’s barely moved, he hasn’t meowed or climbed the walls like his regular self. But he’s eating. I call the vet and get asked to come in asap. He gets his bladder expressed (squeezed out) and is given medication. Throughout the day I’ve seen barely any changes and was advised to call back the next day. So I did. Another appointment. He gets a little poke and prod from the vet and some urine comes out! He’s given some more medication to widen his urethra and we go home. He eats. He sleeps. He squats every 5 minutes. And then.. blood. Nothing but a drop of blood. This goes on for several hours after medications, no change. And then. He vomits. Something I was warned was a sign of it worsening or the medication. But with blood being evident it was only plausible that it has worsened. I call the vet again, and I was quoted on Wednesday, £1500. Today it is £3000. “We estimate up to cover extra costs” “3 months or 10” “£600 upfront or £450” I feel sick. I Cry. I ask as much as I can. I’m offered for him to be unblocked today and send home for £1152 but “there’s a high risk he’ll re-block quickly”. I’m offered to seek other places. I ask about the payment plan sites. “The 10 month site is much more restrictive with credit score”.

I am on welfare. I am mentally disabled from CPTSD and BPD, amongst many other conditions. I would not have been accepted anyway for the payment plans.

My adoptive mother, who is 61 on the brink of retirement and has dedicated her life to working in medical research, being a reverent, and now working in an all girls school in South Africa, may have possibly, almost definitely saved my cats life. She is 1 year cancer free, and after nearly 2 hours of talking to the vet, a finance worker and the manager, paid outright £1500 to ensure he was admitted. There is still a balance of £1500 to be paid. And any amount after was agreed to be refunded. The overall estimate was £2995.31 for a full unblock.

The appointments between cost £195.56

I do not drive and as it was emergency, I had to use taxis. This cost an additional £39.89. With more to come to the taxi cost after going to collect him and take him home.

Those living on welfare or feeling the extremities will know, funds like these are either saved up, or received from extra help and impact people greatly. I used money from my food budget, I asked my partner and my mum all had to help to pay for these appointments and medicines.

THE MAIN POINT.

I’m asking anyone and everyone who’s ever struggled with vet bills, been in that vile situation where you’re at a loss for words, choices or ideas, you’re broken and crying and panicking on the next 3-4 years or yours and another’s life, anyone who loves cats, anyone who wants to show their love and support for both lucifer the most docile loveable black cat I have the honour to home, and my mother who’s deserves more than I could ever give her, to share, donate and give to this cause that means everything to me. They mean everything to me and I am asking for any support to pay this evil amount of money and support me, lucifer and my mum.
