Gwendolyn Bibb SHS Educational Fund

Gwendolyn Bibb carried a light of genuine love and vulnerability that brought out the best in her friends everywhere.  I am one of many that called her my dear friend.  She listened and shared and made me feel loved every minute I was fortunate enough to be around her.

Gwen passed away February 7 and left, for a moment, David, Chloe and  Abigail.   Gwen's love is alive in them, and her family's continued goodness in the world will be her legacy.

I hope that we, her friends, can also remember Gwen and share the love we felt from her with others through an fund in her memory.

For those who don't know Selma, it is at the heart of the San Joaquin Valley of California and where Gwen and David went to high school (SHS class of 1995).  It is a town that, despite its significant challenges, has a high school full of dedicated teachers and ambitious and smart students.  "Be Brave" was Gwen's motto in fighting cancer, but it has been her approach to each of the incredible challenges she faced throughout her life.  It is the bravery that Gwen embodied that a fund in her honor will identify and support.

The Gwendolyn Bibb Educational Fund will provide money to open pathways of opportunity for Selma High School students.  This effort may take the form of college scholarships to students who have overcome adversity, grants to teachers who propose innovative ways to expose SHS students to the world, or any other effort that has the potential to alter the trajectory of Selma's underpriviledged students.

I am organizing the fund with the blessing of David, and together with a handful of other friends including Forest Castle, our friend and teacher at Selma High.  Since many of us don't live in Selma any more, Forest has agreed to do much of the coordinating at Selma High School and the Educational Employee's Credit Union where the funds will be held.  The money raised here will be the start of this fund and awards will be given out annually.  I give you my word that every penny raised through this gofundme campaign or checks otherwise deposited in the account will go toward the mission stated above.  Please contact me if you have questions or prefer to donate directly to the EECU account.

I know I am not alone in my love for Gwen - she lived to bless others.  If you are able, please join me in remembering her through donoating to this fund, sharing it on your social media, and blessing the lives of others.
