This is our daughter, Megan. What she's gone through over the past few years since this picture was taken is truly heartbreaking. She's been diagnosed with a variety of central nervous system issues, including Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS), Central Sensitization, and Postural Tachycardia Syndrome (PoTS). Her conditions have taken a huge toll on her psychologically and we've had to sign her up for a residential program so that she can get the help she needs. It was a very difficult decision for us, but it's the decision that is right and will save her life. We're cautiously optimistic. Before we admitted her to the residential program, her three year old chihuahua Twinkie got into some foxtail (aka speargrass). We didn't know how dangerous that is. We saw some scratches at first, which turned into cysts, and then a persistent and nasty infection. Over the course of a couple weeks, she started acting lethargic. We took her to the vet a few times, tried one set of antibiotics, then another. They didn't help and she stopped eating and drinking. Two days ago, we rushed her to the emergency veterinary hospital in the middle of the night. They saved her, ran additional tests, and confirmed foxtail by seeing the tracks by ultrasound. We paid ~$3,500, but it's a temporary measure. She needs major surgery that will cost us somewhere between $8,000-$10,000. We don't have it, and without the surgery Twinkie will die. This is my effort to save my daughter's beloved companion and friend. Megan has been through enough, and we can't bear the thought of Megan losing her Twinkie while she's in a program getting the help she needs. Thank you!
