Zeitgeist Staff Support Fund

Bloody Marys, our Biergarten, “Music so loud it hurts” (still one of our favorite reviews), and the winning attitudes and surly discharge of our staff. You may have come to miss these things, and we must admit, we have come to miss you too!

The outreach we’ve received these last few weeks, asking how some of you can support the bar staff you’ve come to know as your, “friendly neighborhood assholes,” has been humbling to say the very least. Even Pete cracked a smile. 

So here it is, a GoFundMe to help your favorite bar staff live to see another day during the COVID-19 pandemic. The owners of Zeitgeist had gone the extra mile to support their band of merry misfits, and their plan provided some much needed support through the original SF county shelter in place order date through April 7th. But now as SIP orders have been extended and closures are indefinite, the road ahead is uncertain for us: the bartenders, barbacks, door guys, cooks and the angel saints who clean this place after everyone else has retreated back to their lairs. It’s safe to say the impact to the service industry will still be felt even after mandates are lifted, as it may take time for people to pack houses like they used to and for business to stabilize. Our livelihoods depend on butts in chairs so until we come back to full speed we would be grateful to those who can help us out in these strange times.

We know that giving in a time of communal crisis isn’t a possibility for everyone, and we respect your struggle (we’re living it too) and hope to be here to ease your pains once this is all over. We’re not asking for any specific amount, just for anyone to share what you can. All funds will go directly to and be distributed among our regular hourly employees to help them through the remainder of our closure, however long that may be, to help keep food on the table and take a chip off the rent block. Maybe our new motto will be “Warm Beer, Cold Women, Lukewarm Hearts?” But probably not. We wouldn’t want to go and change on you all.”
