Las Colinas to the NHSMUN

El Colegio Las Colinas siempre ha estado a la vanguardia de la educación en el estado Lara y en toda Venezuela. Es el único colegio en Barquisimeto que ofrece un programa bilingüe en todos los niveles de educación; es además el primero en traer la experiencia de Modelos de Naciones Unidas a la ciudad. Y este año por primera vez, Las Colinas enviará una delegación al Modelo de Naciones Unidas más grande del mundo, NHSMUN en Nueva York.
Esta experiencia consiste en que trece delegados colinistas seleccionados por sus habilidades investigativas, responsabilidad y liderazgo participarán en una conferencia durante la cual se hace un simulacro de la Asamblea General de Naciones Unidas y se integrarán comités, negociarán y dialogarán en idioma inglés con participantes de otros países, cada uno de los cuales asumirá la representación de un país integrante de las Naciones Unidas para solventar los problemas más urgentes del mundo. Se trata de una experiencia educativa única que por su esfuerzo se han hecho merecedores estos trece estudiantes brillantes. Nieves Abreu y Luis González, dos de estos jóvenes, fueron escogidos con sus otros once compañeros entre centenares de solicitantes por la embajada americana como embajadores juveniles.
Sin embargo, la situación económica actual del país ha imposibilitado que Luis y Nieves puedan costear el viaje a New York. Debemos lograr que estas dos piezas esenciales de nuestra delegación obtengan la experiencia única de formación ciudadana y política que merecen, se trata de dos futuros líderes de nuestro país y el mundo. Es por esto que necesitamos del aporte de todos lo que se sientan comprometidos con la formación de nuevos líderes, de todos lo que han luchado por un sueño y lo han podido materializar y sobre todo de aquellos que con cualquier aporte pueden ayudar a que se cumplan los sueños de jóvenes talentosos y esperanzados en el futuro.

Las Colinas has always been at the cutting edge of educational movements in Venezuela. It is the only school in its city Barquisimeto, to offer a bilingual program at all academic levels, and was the first to bring the Model UN experience to the city. And for the first time, the school will send a delegation to the largest Model UN of its kind in the world, NHSMUN in New York.
This trip will consist of thirteen delegates from Las Colinas, selected for their research ability, responsibility, and leadership, who will participate in a conference which simulates the General Assembly of the UN. The delegates will participate in various committees, and negotiate and debate in English with delegates of other countries, each representing the interests of a different member state of the UN to solve the most urgent problems in the world. It is a unique educational experience, which all thirteen of these hard-working delegates are deserving of. Among the thirteen, Nieves Abreu and Luis Gonzalez stand out for having been chosen in this previous academic year to be Youth Ambassadors to the US by its embassy in Caracas.
However, the current economic situation in the country has rendered it impossible for Luis and Nieves to afford the trip to New York. We have to make sure that these two essential pieces of our delegation can gain access to this unique experience in citizenship and politics. We’re talking about two future leaders of our country and the world. Therefore, we need the support of anyone who feels committed to the development of new leaders, anyone who has struggled to follow a dream and made it happen, and most of all anyone who can make a contribution, no matter how big or small, so that the dream of these two talented youngsters may become a reality.
