Natalie's Story 02/12/1975 - 08/05/2015
My cousin Natalie Dartnell from Leeton NSW Australia was diagnosed with Progressive MS just before she turned 14. The following year she had a severe MS attack and from that time on Natalie required around the clock, 24 hour care at home.
The year of Natalie's 18th birthday her parents Joan & Geoff had to make the difficult decision to have Nat tube fed. Because of the love and devotion from her family Natalie was able to remain at home and her mum, Joan slept in Natalie’s room for 21 years to help her through the night with temperatures, choking, pains, spasms, seizures, medications and water etc.
Sadly on 8th May this year Nat loss her courageous battle with this insidious disease at the age of 39 years.
MS Australia were wonderful to Natalie as were the local branch - the MIA Branch of MS Australia who supported Nat in every way possible.
The local branch raises funds to supports 60 persons with Multiple Sclerosis in the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area (MIA) region - men, women and children from all walks of life receive financial, physical and social support with the aim of keeping them at home and independent for as long as possible. Funds raised are used to provide specialised equipment, home renovations, services and medical supplies.
Natalie's mum Joan is the President of the MIA Branch of MS Australia.
