On November 19th, 2019 I received a phone call from my fiance's mother saying that he was being taken to the hospital by ambulance because he was having extreme chest pain, his heart was racing, and he felt like he was going to pass out. This is never a phone call you want to get, but it was especially concerning since Michael's grandpa had passed away from cardiac arrest exactly one month prior. After many tests that night Michael was told that his symptoms matched that of a fainting episode and he was sent home. However, Michael ended up in the hospital with the same symptoms the very next day. For the next month Michael and I were making late night and early morning trips to the emergency room and urgent care to try to figure out what was wrong with him. The multitude of doctors we saw kept ruling things out, which was both relieving and frustrating because nothing seemed to be helping Michael to feel better. Michael was diagnosed with anxiety and received medication that he began taking in early December. This was still puzzling though since Michael had never been an anxious person and never seemed to have many troubling thoughts. Michael saw a psychiatrist  who agreed that his persistent symptoms and lack of anxious thoughts did not seem to be typical of those who suffer from anxiety; although, this whole process has caused much situational anxiety. Almost four months later and there has not been one day that Michael has not been dizzy, fatigued, and nauseous. He has also been experiencing insomnia, rapid heart rate, brain fog, cold sweats, gestational issues,  shortness of breath, and headaches. Some of his tests, as well as speaking with medical professionals, have led us to consider that his symptoms might be from an autonomic system disorder called POTS (Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome). The most effective treatment for POTS is still being researched, but there is a treatment center in Dallas, TX that has a program that many patients have found success and relief through. Michael has been in contact with doctors at The POTS Treatment Center in Texas and is more compelled to go each day that he wakes up still feeling miserable. It is my goal to help him raise the money that it would cost for him to fly to Texas for two weeks and receive this treatment. I have felt so helpless for the last 3 and 1/2 months not knowing what to do to help Michael feel better. This trip now comes with a bit more since of urgency as Michael does not want to postpone our wedding in May. We are so grateful for anyway in which you are able to help us and we appreciate your generosity.
