Danielle went into anaphylactic shock and experienced angiodema on Thursday, 4/20 after a very severe allergic reaction. She was admitted to the ICU and was placed on a ventilator. Unfortunately, her body was not responding to the interventions in the way doctors expected it to. Because of this, doctors have agreed that there is a bigger issue at hand- every doctor she has seen said they’ve never experienced a patient like her before. Tests are currently being done to identify what the root cause of this is. We still don’t have answers around this.
We are still waiting on her blood culture to make sure sepsis is completely out of her system. Danielle is experiencing steroid myopathy, has nodules and blood clots in her lung, and a 3-inch hematoma in her esophagus, which is causing a significant amount of shortness of breathe, chest pain and heart palpitations.
On Monday, 5/8 she had a procedure to get an IVC filter put in for the blood clots since she can no longer be on Heparin due to the hematoma. They had to stop the blood thinners because it will make the hematoma in the esophagus bigger and it already is large.
She is finally home and PICC line was removed a week ago. Her medications are taken orally now. The main issue now is the risk of the hematoma rupturing. Gastrointerologist and thoracic surgeon are keeping a close watch on her symptoms.
The road to recovery for Danielle will be long. She has a ton of follow up appointments as well as a significant amount of PT + OT to help regain her strength and have her doing the everyday things that we take for granted.
We appreciate the continued prayers of healing.
