Hello, My name is Mindy Yehjin Joun and I am the eldest daughter of Amy Joun, a mother of three, who is currently dealing with stage 4 cancer. Tumors affect her brain and continue to spread throughout different areas of her body.A few months ago, my mother was driving and suddenly she suffered a stroke; she lost control of the wheel as cars honked and passed by not realizing what was happening to her. Since this incident she has been unable to walk, speak, or move.Her stroke symptoms still exist, but are a lot more mild. However, she still isn't able to walk or perform simple daily tasks like sitting up or going to the bathroom. My father, Peter Joun, has been by her side taking care of all of her needs each and every day. As a result, he has struggled to support his wife and their new circumstances.Despite all of this, my mother starts every morning with a prayer and continues to enjoy the sounds of birds and cats that visit her outside her window.Before she was diagnosed with cancer, Amy lived a full life. She immigrated to America and took great care of her two daughters. When she was younger she majored in classical piano and after a difficult first marriage persevered as a single mother to work three jobs and support her family.Later on she re-married with my wonderful stepfather and eventually my brother Joshua was born. Both my parents had a passion for wanting to educate and motivate the nextgeneration and so this drove them to open an after school in Koreatown, Los Angeles. After a few wonderful years, they unfortunately sold the business after Amy was diagnosed with cancer.After receiving months of chemo, she is now rejecting chemotherapy and instead will be receiving care at home from social workers and nurses. She is choosing a more natural and holistic approach to treatment.My family and I are starting a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds to help my mom who is battling stage 4 cancer with tumors in her brain and liver. She's on a strict raw, organic fruits and veggies diet and so some of the money raised will help purchase medicine, organic fruits and vegetables, and other significant supplies needed to help my mom with her recovery.Any amount that you can contribute will be greatly appreciated.
