We are the parents of a nearly 10 year old special needs child who is diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy, who is developmentally delayed, non verbal and severely autistic. His needs are total care such as feeding, diapering, bathing, dressing, but what is our most urgent concern and disturbing is his self-injurious behaviors. He demands constant total attention and his tendency is to exhibit destructive behavior when he can't express the attention he is yearning for as well as his many sensory issues. For example if he sees a carpet somewhere he would attempt to rub his face against the carpet seeking sensory input. He often will just rub his face until raw causing open sores without rhyme or reason. He has been known to bang against walls sometimes causing holes exposing the insulation in his room all born out of his frustrations of not being able to verbalize his needs.
Ironically without knowing ahead of time that Joshua would have multiple disabilities, we have saved his umbilical cord blood from the time of his birth with a reputable company that would not allow us to use it at our will due to federal medical ethics law which now have changed to allow such use of this resource.
The benefits of such cord blood use have brought new hope to children with disabilities, specifically such as Cerebral Palsy and Autism.
There are no guarantees given and it is not a panacea cure, but we believe he would benefit greatly and feel that any positive results would improve the quality of his life from stem cell implantation.
However, any opportunity to use his own cordblood is expensive, not to mention an MRI evaluation, the legal proceedings to obtain and then transfer his cordblood to a licensed Regenerative Medical Facility, anesthesia and multiple applications.
This procedure is not covered by health insurance as it is considered "experimental" making it unaffordable. We pray to God everyday for help for our son and our family.
As parents, you always want to do whats best for your child and that is why we are seeking Your Help in this endeavour.
