Hi everyone!
I'm writing during a time of quarantine in my house with my family, including my mom, Angela Jaen, M.D., who is working daily with Covid-19 patients as an anesthesiologist. As you all know, the Coronavirus has been especially challenging for Emergency Room , Intensive Care, and Anesthesia Personnel. Since the virus is mostly transmitted via aerosolized particles, healthcare providers are most at risk when intubating and extubating patients. The entire country is facing a shortage of personal protective equipment and this pandemic is at unprecedented proportions, taking its toll (emotional and financial) on all healthcare providers.
The Cane Institute and Allan Phipps, a Robotics and STEM coordinator at A.D. Henderson University School and FAU High School have been generous enough to start 3D printing face-shields and intubation chambers at material cost (with free labor from associates of the robotics department with privately owned 3D printers). We have had both prototypes approved by the Anesthesia Department and are starting to ramp up mass-production. Allan Phipps is running 3D printers day and night to reach our goal.
Our goal is to produce and donate 25 intubation chambers and 1,000 face shields for healthcare providers working in Palm Beach County hospitals. All surplus materials will be distributed to hospitals in surrounding counties. We need help with purchasing raw materials for mass production.
In this challenging time healthcare providers are feeling the concern and generosity of the larger SoFlo community, but the greatest need is at the level of personal protective equipment.
Please support your healthcare community and give generously and/or share to help us reach this goal by the end of this week. All donations will be used for purchase of raw materials for production of Face Shields and Intubation Chambers.
