3D Printing & Laser Cutting for Covid Face Shields
UPDATED 8th April...!
Hi all,
There is a national drive for anyone with a 3D printer to print components and contribute to a huge effort to make and deliver the 345,000 already ordered face shields. See https://www.3dcrowd.uk to see what it's all about. Requests are flooding in by the minute and the 3D printing community cannot keep up. If you have a 3D printer I urge you to get involved. We are all in this together!
UPDATE: We are 5 days in and the #justkeepprinting campaign has grown exponentially. I have an 8, strong, single minded and determined volunteers printing 24/7 on an army of 3d printers. Between us, we have almost 30 printers running at full tilt. 3D printing is frustratingly slow. Therefore, I am raising money to buy as many more 3D printers as possible, as well as the PETG and PLA printing filament to make as many face shields as possible whilst we are all in this crisis. We must keep our NHS protected in any way we can.
A good, cheap 3D printer that will make another 12 or so a day is £275.
£20 buys 1kg of filament which is good for approx' 22 x face shields.
The long and short of it, if I can raise enough money to buy more 3d printers, I will. If I can raise money to buy filament, I will.
Anything you can contribute will go directly towards this cause of printing as many face shields as possible and getting them to the people that need them.
The printers and filament will solely be used to print Covid-19 response parts. All 3D printers bought from these donations will be sold at the end of all of this pandemonium and the money will be donated to charity - probably Air Ambulance but I am open to suggestions. All unused and unopened filament will be returned for a refund and money donated to charity.
