3D Printing Protective Equipment for NYC Hospitals
Donation protected
New York City is currently the epicenter of the coronavirus pandemic with over 139,000 cases. Hospitals are in dire need of personal protective equipment (PPE) for our frontline healthcare workers. In addition to masks that cover the nose and mouth, it is required to have a face shield to prevent transmission of the virus through the eyes. Our medical professionals are risking their lives to help patients. Without the appropriate gear, their jobs become even more dangerous.
We're raising money to help create, assemble, and donate 3D printed face shields and mask extenders to hospital staff in NYC to protect them against COVID-19. To date, we have 3D printed and donated over 150 face shields and mask extenders to hospital staff at Columbia Presbyterian hospital, and we need your help to print more.
Our goal is to print and donate 5,000 face shields and mask extenders to help the cause, but we can’t without your support. We’ve been inspired by the amazing collective efforts of everyone so far, and we felt the need to do our part as well. Please consider sharing and donating, as every little bit helps!

Thank you to the original creators of these open-source files.
Thank you to Dr. Kara Margolis for donation of a 3D printer.
Cost estimates (per item):
PLA filament for face shield: $0.65
PLA filament for mask extender: $0.11
Elastic headband: $0.18
Plastic transparent sheet: $0.22
Zip ties: $0.10
Misc items (cushion, glue, painters tape, sterilization wipes): $0.05
Total: 1 face shield and 1 mask extender = ~$1.31
$6,500 will give us the funds to produce about 5,000 face shields and mask extenders.
100% of the funds will be going towards producing this equipment, and we will make as much equipment as we can with funds raised. Thank you for your support!
