Medical mission trip to Ethiopia

Donation protected
Hi all,

As many of you know I am now a second year medical student and I am the Vice President of the International Medical Interest Group (IMIG) at Howard University College of Medicine.
I want to thank you in advance for being a part of this effort. Whether you donate or spread the word to those you know, your contribution is invaluable.
Every year for the past 6 years, the medical students of International Medicine Interest Group have organized a student run, student funded medical mission trip to Gondar, Ethiopia. I was recently selected, along with 14 of my colleagues to be a part of this year’s trip. It is scheduled for summer, June 2017 and is slated to last approximately for 3 weeks.

University of Gondar Hospital is a 400-bed teaching hospital that employs 50 doctors, 150 nursing staff, 3 pharmacists, 90 care staff and 25 laboratory scientists. With a population of four million people across the region to serve, there is a notable personnel and resource shortage.

While there, we will be working with and learning from the talented medical minds at the University of Gondar Hospital. We will also gain valuable experience with various diseases not commonly seen in the United States. Our group is heading to Gondar with the intensions of serving to aid the hospital’s medical professionals in day to day tasks. From routine visits to more involved procedures, this opportunity will challenge us to be more effective, resourceful and prepared despite limited access to resources. In addition, to working and studying there we will be bringing supplies to help replenish some of their inventory. Howard has had a relationship with this hospital for about 6 years now, and it is a great way for Howard Students to really follow the mission of the medical school.

This trip is completely student run and student funded. All the funds collected will go towards airfare, accommodation, meals, and supplies to donate.

No donation is too small and any amount donated is greatly appreciated. Prayers are also welcome.

Thank you,

Patricia Kamdem
