Dear friends, recently Tom Jones, a well known dad in our Pembroke community was diagnosed with late stage melanoma skin cancer. The Jones family includes his wife Cindy and their four sons Brendon 21, Korey 20, Declan 18 and Caleb 15. Brendon and Korey are in college, and Declan and Caleb are at Pembroke High School. Many of you may know them from the hockey rinks and football fields around the South Shore.
Tom battled and beat thyroid cancer back in 2016, but was diagnosed in August of 2020 with melanoma. He underwent a lymphadenectomy (lymph node removal) in September 2020, and after several months’ recovery, a routine scan showed that the melanoma had spread to several organs. Tom started immunotherapy at MGH in January and it was not effective in shrinking his cancer. This month (February), he began targeted therapy including BRAF and MEK inhibitors. This is expected to continue for the next year or so.
Cindy has been working as much as possible at The Bridgewaye in Marshfield but with COVID, it’s a pretty quiet time for restaurants. Tom has been an electrician with John Penney Electric for many years, and is still working to some extent, but he is experiencing some pretty difficult side effects from the treatment.
Funds raised will be used to help alleviate the burden of medical and living expenses for Tom’s family over the course of his treatment and care. The money will help his family navigate through extra costs now and in the future, and will give them the flexibility to be home with him when needed. Although we may feel powerless during this difficult time, raising money to assist this well known and much loved family will allow Cindy and the boys to concentrate on supporting Tom in this battle. Thank you.
