Hello, my name is Brody Church. I am 14 and currently working towards my Eagle Scout rank. To earn the rank of Eagle Scout, I need to fundraise, set up and carry out a service project of my choosing.
I have been involved with scouting since kindergarten. I have camped, hiked, and earned 68 merit badges, 15 Eagle-required merit badges, an NAO camping award, and a World Conservation Award through the Boys Scouts of America. In addition, I have earned the Religious Emblems of Light of Christ, Parvuli Dei and the Ad Altare Dei and will begin the Pope Pius XII this fall. In 2021 I was inducted into the Order of Arrow, the honor society for The Boy Scouts of America, and I earned my Brotherhood membership of the Order of Arrow in 2022. I am working to achieve my Vigil membership in the Order of Arrow, the highest level. I have learned many life skills and held various leadership roles in Troop 872, all of which have prepared me to this point, achieving my Eagle Rank.
Eagle is the highest Scout rank and is an extreme honor and privilege. This performance-based achievement has high standards that not everyone will earn. Only about 6 percent of all BSA members earn Eagle. For my project, I chose to help out a part of my community that I believe has been a big part of who I am.
I will be doing work at the JSerra Convent, where some of the Dominican Sisters live. I will pour a concrete slab where a pedestal and the statute of St. Joseph will sit. I will include a wood arbor, plants, lights and sprinklers. I will lead fellow troop 872 scouts in digging trenches for the water lines to the plants and low voltage for the lighting. In addition, I will be building shelves in the shed where they park their bikes which will provide more storage. Little critters get into their garden and eat their vegetables, and I have been asked to install netting to protect their garden. My project is a big undertaking that I am responsible for; however, with the help of my family, friends and fellow Scouts, I am confident we can provide an excellent area for the Sisters living in the JSerra Convent.
The funds I am raising will be used to buy all the supplies needed for this project. The funds also include the pedestal and the statute.
Any funds left over will go to the beneficiary, the Dominican Sisters who reside at the JSerra Convent.
I have met with the Sisters, my Scoutmaster, our committee chair, and a district representative for the Orange Council. The project has been approved.
Once completed and everything signed off, I will be eligible for my final board of review, where I will earn the rank of Eagle Scout. Anything you can donate is greatly appreciated, and I hope to make each of you proud.
Thank you for your trust and consideration.
Respectfully,
Brody Church
