It comes with a very heavy heart that I share the passing of my irreplaceable best friend of over 30 years and amazing husband of 8 1/2 months. His body gave into the fight on May 11,2016, after the cancer was complicated by pneumonia.  His resistance to infection was greatly diminished by  the previous  doses of chemotherapy.
Ron was a treasured brother on the Evanston Fire Department in Illinois. He died one day shy of his 30th anniversary at EFD.  Even after he passed, his brothers celebrated their Captain  Ronald  D. Shulga's arrival, back home from Texas, in the most honorable and respectful way possible. The very heartwarming and impressive photos can be found on the City of Evanston Facebook site and on the site:   https://olkee.smugmug.com/Mabas-Division3-Red-Center/Evanston-Fire-Dept/Evanston-Fire-Department-Capt-Ron-Shulga/.
I can't thank the following people  enough:  Captain Jeffrey Boetto, Chief Brian Scott along with all the others at the Evanston Fire Department, Chicago Fire Dept., Houston Fire Dept., for honoring Ron in such high regard, both during his lifetime and after he passed away.  I can't begin to describe what that means to me.

Thank you everyone who contributed to Ron's medical  care, and I thank everyone  for your prayers.  You not only kept our hope alive,  but during the time he was feeling better, Ron and I were able to spend several really nice and unforgettable months together in Texas. The memories I have are priceless.

I continue to grieve  his loss. My  children and I miss him immensely. He was an outstanding father and friend to his daughter Sarah,  from his first marriage, and to my three children: Brittany, Anthony and Cameron.

Donations for the family are still welcome and needed as I am unable to work at this time. I also opened a private collection for Ron at Chase Bank which will remain open for 2 years.  At Chase, one can make checks payable to:  "Ronald D. Shulga, Donation Account".   On the back of the check you have the option to write:  "Deposit only to account number 3550775182".

I apologize for taking so long to update his gfm page. This grieving process has been, and still is very difficult for me.

Thank you everyone for your love and support.  I will keep his story posted below, for Ron and I  wrote it together.
Much love to you and God bless.

Ron's story:
My husband Ron Shulga is battling Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma for the fourth time yet this occurance is a very aggressive form of lymphoma. We married in August 2016, two months after this most recent diagnosis. Ron has been my dearest friend for over 30 years. He is a Fire Captain and Certified Paramedic and has proudly worked for the same city for 29 years. He is also an amazing husband, father, brother, uncle and son.

After several months of  unsuccessful chemotherapy infusions, we sought other non-toxic ways to treat his cancer and found information on The Burzynski Clinic in Houston, Texas.

Both Ron and I, along with the doctors at the clinic, noticed significant improvement in Ron's physical health and energy levels within the first two weeks of receiving treatment at this clinic! After months of uncertainty and nearly losing Ron to the cancer last December, I knew we made the right decision by choosing Dr. Burzynski.  Unfortunately, neither the cost of the medical treatment nor the medications are not covered by health insurance. Each medication costs thousands of dollars, all out-of-pocket. The first year of treatment alone is estimated to cost  $100,000. (Please see Update posted February 23, 2017).

When we first arrived in Texas, Ron was so weak he needed a wheelchair to get around. At our initial visit, Dr. Burzynski immediately admitted him to a local hospital for much needed IV fluids and blood transfusions. Today, only 3 weeks after starting Dr. Burzynski's personalized treatment including Antineoplaston Therapy, Ron is feeling a lot better! Also, aside from a little remaining discoloration, the cancerous lumps on his face, neck and back have already disappeared.

We would appreciate any help you are able to give so that Ron can continue receiving this very promising treatment. Your donations will help us fund Ron's medication, ongoing medical treatment, airline and lodging costs. We will need to return to Texas every couple of months to tweak the medication and to monitor his progress.

I have been so blessed have had the opportunity to marry my long-time best friend. We look forward to supporting and loving one another for another 30 years, this time as husband and wife.

We thank you in advance for your kindness and support. Most importantly, your donations will provide us with hope.
