The recent school closure has highlighted that, more than ever, our ability to effectively teach our pupils is increasingly dependent on the number of up-to-date computing devices we have available. Our current stock of devices is ageing and not fit for purpose in the use of modern cloud-based applications. We know from the work we have already done that these applications can have a significant impact on pupils’ learning - both in terms of progress and engagement.


As a school in a more affluent area, we are one of the lowest funded schools in Bolton. This is on top of the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on our ability to raise funds through other means, for example, the annual Summer Fair.  The impact on pupils from not being in school for so many months due to the ongoing pandemic has the potential to be long-lasting and there is also the potential for more local school closures during the next academic year. 


We are aiming to raise £25,000 to be able to purchase 60 Chromebooks and install a dedicated, fixed bandwidth internet connection to enable them to work quickly and reliably. We want to use these devices to support children's learning through a variety of cloud-based applications. We want the devices to be available both in school and at home for children who do not have access to a suitable device. We also want to engage with and support members of our community with ‘digital drop-ins’ using the devices.


Access to technology and the ability to effectively utilise applications increasingly gives children a ‘head-start’ in their educational journey as well as the ability to collaborate, celebrate and communicate on their learning remotely with staff and peers. This has never been more true than in the present situation for schools.


We don’t want our children at Eagley to be left behind in the race to ‘catch-up’ on their education. We know that, given the tools, they have the ability to emerge from this period of disruption with the skills, knowledge and attitudes required to be that next generation of well-educated and responsible young adults that our world needs.


We would be massively appreciative of donations of all sizes and would be really keen to partner with companies and organisations both within and outside of our local community to achieve our ultimate fundraising goal and help all of our children to realise their potential.
