On January 5 th Chip walked out on the porch to look at the stars and smoke a butt before bed as he usually does
He lost his balance at the top step and fell 7 ft to the ground
In one split second his life changed . Our life changed
He lost consciousness and awoke to see legs flailing around
They weren't his legs for sure as he would feel that .Must just be a minor head injury
He tried to get up and couldn't . The legs flailing around were his
His diaphragm had been affected in fall and he could not yell for help
He laid there on the cold ground thinking surely this would pass
Tom our cat came and laid with him . Chip saw 2 shooting stars
He tried to get up again and could not .Our dog Dakota must have heard his cries for help and alerted my son
From there the ambulance came
Chip had broken his neck in his 20's and that injury had some bone growth on it that pinched his spinal cord on impact He could not feel below his neck and thought he was going to be completely paralyzed . For 32 hours he thought the worst . I ALWAYS knew he would be fine . Don't ask me why , I just knew and know.
Finally he was diagnosed . Chip has Incomplete C5 C6 SCI ( spinal Cord Injury ) he is classified as an Asia D which is good news as highest chance of full recovery This type of injury affects the messaging from the brain to the body from injury point down and weakness the further out on the extremities ie hands feet
He spent a week in hospital and was transferred to an Acute Spinal Cord Rehab
I am amazed at the determination Chip has and how hard he is working
He is in great spirits and is such an inspiration to so many
He has been getting stronger each day but we realize his recovery is going to be a marathon and not a sprint .
Thank you to all our Prayer Warriors You are great Please keep praying
Now I'm calling on any of you that have been blessed financially as we need help , plain and simple and are calling on our friends and the Universe
Reality sets in when I measured the doorways and realize his wheelchair will not fit . That we don't have a bathroom large enough to accommodate his needs
He will need intensive physical therapy for the next year which is costly
I will need to stay home w Chip 24/7 so our income is impacted
We need to expand some doorways and remodel a bathroom
And many things I'm sure neither of us have even thought of
If you can donate anything it will be greatly appreciated
We WILL pay it forward
Chip is a great guy . A master craftsman who thinks nothing of helping a friend in need
He has a big heart and a zest for life . He has more friends than anyone I know and keeps in touch with all of them , even childhood friends . Chip knows no strangers and to know Chip is to love him .
Even while he is facing his struggles , He has been looking at others there and wondering how he can help . We are blessed to have friends that can help with the contracting work . He knows some of these people don't have that and like him , their life changed in one second . Their families lives changed .
He plans on using his talents to help people in his position now thru getting his local craftsman involved in donating their talents to help others with SCI and in volunteering his time when he is back on his feet
So please donate and Help Chip Walk Again . He has had many close calls with death and is still here for a greater purpose
Thank you We are blessed to have so much love and support .
