Rent and Eviction

hey everyone, so about two months ago i moved out on my own with a roommate who i met after leaving home. when we first moved into our home, things were great, we had two other roommates at the time who were making plans to move out in a few weeks and we were all fairly close. my roommate and i were under the impression that they would be removing themselves from the lease, and that my roommate and i would be adding ourselves on and taking over. everything went smoothly at first and i signed the lease agreeing to pay $1437 a month. i paid our ex roommates $2100 for rent, as at that point i stayed for half a month and was told they would use the money to cover the next month as well. after my roommate and i paid them rent, they hastily packed their things and left within a week, completely ghosting us. my roommate and i found out they had taken the money and ran, and that rent was still due. my roommate and i scrapped up enough money to pay our rent and we thought everything was going to be alright. time skip to a few days ago, we got a call and a letter from the office telling us we had a balance of 11.5k and that if we dont pay it in 30 days we’ll be evicted. the office NEVER let us know there was a preexisting balance and that our ex roommates had not been paying rent. our old roommates were still on the lease up until a few days ago, when the office randomly took them off as they moved out of state, and told us we were responsible for their preexisting rent balance. i have no idea how im going to pull 11k out of my ass, and i dont really have the option of going back home. my roommate is working on getting a military lawyer (as she is in the military) and is working on filing for discrimination and suing for other things the office staff have both said and done to us. the fact we were not let known of an existing balance is baffling and im at a loss for what im going to do, because i have 30 days to come up with this absurd amount of money. i hate asking for ANY kind of money from others and i feel incredibly guilty taking on new commitments and commissions as i already have a queue and cannot take on more work. i absolutely hate asking for any sort of help but at this point i dont know what else to do, so im asking for any sort of donations or help. literally anything helps. ill be doing my best to doodle peoples characters and giving back anyway i can once this is sorted out, and im so sorry for asking so much. i don’t expect for donations to cover everything and i will be doing adopts and anything else i can do come up with this so we dont get evicted. absolutely anything helps and retweets are so, so appreciated. thank you for reading.
