Help Isaiah Beat Cancer

“The hospital staff all love him”…

While those of you who know Isaiah Gravelle will smile when you read this and think to yourselves, "of course they love him!"... this thought will come with some sadness.  We would all rather have Isaiah at home instead of in the hospital.

On Christmas eve Isaiah was admitted to Children’s Hospital in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Just a few short days before Christmas eve, Isaiah was diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS), a rare and very aggressive form of childhood cancer. The cancer caused a baseball size tumor in his stomach, and cancerous spots on his lungs and bones.  The large tumor in his stomach has pressed against his kidneys and intestines, making every day bodily functions a big challenge and extreme health hazard.  Through the skills of the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, Isaiah is making progress.

Isaiah began chemotherapy that is expected to last eighteen months, with radiation treatment and possible surgeries.

Those of you who know and love Isaiah will also know and love his mom, Amy Gravelle. The two are an inseparable pair, Isaiah is her only child. It will come as no surprise to know that Amy has not left Isaiah’s side since he was admitted to the hospital several weeks ago.

If you have been touched by cancer or are close to someone who has undergone any sort of unexpected medical difficulty, you know how quickly costs add up.  Wear and tear on Amy’s old car (2004 Chevy with 170k miles), extra gas, meals away from home, and medical expenses compound daily and quickly become a huge added stress. No parent should have to think about this while helping their child fight for life.

Amy is disabled and on a very limited income. These next few years will be difficult for her and Isaiah as she balances her time with him.  Once the chemotherapy has reduced the tumor size enough to allow him to go home, Isaiah will require injections five days a week for a year and a half.  Amy and Isaiah live 120 miles (round trip) from the hospital, that is 600 miles/week.  Isaiah is never without Amy, Amy is never without Isaiah. At a time like this, it is so important that they remain together.

Has Isaiah brought a smile to your face with his infectious personality? Has Amy had an impact on your life or the life of your child? This is your chance to show you care and to “pay forward” the kindness, joy and love that both Isaiah and Amy bring to our community on a daily basis.

If you are able to donate to this GoFundMe campaign, everyone involved would be very grateful, no matter what the amount. Funds raised will go to support Isaiah and Amy over the course of his treatment.

**Finally, PLEASE SHARE THIS CAMPAIGN on Facebook, Twitter, by email and among your social circles** Amy and Isaiah are beloved members of the Cascade and Plymouth community, Isaiah is a proud Plymouth high school student and we know that so many people will want to support them. Using your social circles to spread the word can be very effective. Please share not only today, but regularly throughout the next few months.
