100km for the Irish Lung Fibrosis Association
Hi everyone, for the month of December I’ll be running 100k to raise funds for ILFA, a charity that hits very close to home.
My mum was diagnosed with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) which is a serious respiratory illness. For those who aren’t aware of this disease, the simple things we take for granted like getting out of bed, walking, talking, all quickly become the biggest challenges and the only hope of having any normality again is by getting a lung transplant.
The irish lung fibrosis association (ILFA) is the patient support organization for those with fibrotic lung diseases. Fundraising is their main source of income and this allows patients & families to get the support they need as well as allowing continued research and awareness for these diseases. ILFA carry out such great work by helping so many families like my own so any donation at all would be really appreciated.
I also want to raise awareness around organ donation as unfortunately in Ireland, the availability of suitable donor organs continues to be a big challenge. A lot of this comes down to the ‘opt in’ system we have in place - this essentially means that you are not automatically a donor, unless you have stated otherwise on your driving license or carry a donor card.
Please check your drivers license and see if you are currently a donor - (code 115 will be written on the back). If you aren’t and are happy to be a donor, please please please register for a donor card.
You can do so in just 2 minutes @ https://ika.ie/get-a-donor-card/?doing_wp_cron=1636581933.862315893173217773437
Also, it’s really important to let your family know your wishes in terms of organ donation!!
By becoming a donor and supporting ILFA you could make the difference between someone getting another shot at life and the opportunity to live out valuable years that we all deserve.
I will be transferring the funds across to ILFA from my own personal bank account at the end of the month.
I can’t tell you enough how much any support means so a huge thank you in advance to anyone who helps with my little mission x
