Teresa is my 26 year old cousin and a marvelous mother to her 9 year old daughter Lea. Teresa was just 19 years old when she was diagnosed with Lupus in 2008. She was treated for 8 months before she landed in the hospital for a week. Her body was ill and not responding to the treatment given then,she had been referred to Stanford where she is still being treated to this present day. She later learned in 2011 that she had developed a Kidney Disease. She has had four Kidney biopsies throughout the years since 2012. In addition to her Lupus nephritis she was also diagnosed with another kidney disease glomerulonephritis. Which is two different diseases attacking the kidneys. Since July of 2015 Teresa has been on peritoneal dialysis. She does her own treatments daily which consists of her hooking herself up to a machine every night before going to bed. This daily treatment is just a little over 9 hours everyday. In July of 2015, Teresa was put on a kidney transplant list. The doctors told her it would be a 7-9 year wait before possibly getting a match through the donation program. But lucky for Teresa, her oldest brother is a match! He has offered to donate one of his kidneys to help his sister. They met with the surgeon on January 17th, 2017. He has scheduled the transplant to take place on February 1st. There are expenses such as travel for Teresa to Stanford and check ups for the next 6 months following the surgery. She will be admitted for a week and then moved to housing facilities for approximately a month. She will have several appointments to attend following the surgery and will be prescribed medications to take in order for the kidney to correctly function and avoid rejection of the Kidneys. Sadly her insurance doesn't cover the full expense so please family and friends let's band together and help raise money for Teresa who is a marvelous mother, friend & family member. Let's help her get back to her daily routine and a life that doesn't consist of a 9 hour treatment everyday.
