Hello everyone
Don Cernuto is 74 years old. Don is a Marine and is a veteran Sgt E5. Don did 2 tours in Vietnam and has 2 Purple Hearts along with other awards. Don was discharged from the USMC in 1974 with a honorable discharge. In 2016 Don retired from 50+ years in the truss and Component industry. In 2016 Don and his wife of 33 years Mary-Ellen ( who has MS ) moved to TN to be closer to their children. Here is where Don got back involved with St. Catherine's Catholic Church. At this time Don became the faithful navigated and district deputy with the Knights Of Columbus # 7447 . In 2019 Don and Mary-Ellen moved back to North Carolina to be close to their youngest child and her new born child. In 2022 Don came out of retirement to run a new truss plant in Lumberton NC. At this time Don became ill and had to retire again. Don was having trouble with his white blood count. Don began bleeding and the drs did not know from where. Don went through several endoscopies and hospital stays. The drs found out that Don had thrombocythemia. Drs then began treatment for thrombocythemia with a chemo pill to help. In 2023 Don had an aneurysm, and heart attack. Don began not feeling well again. In October 2023 Don was told he had AML Leukemia and 15-24 Months to live with treatment. Don is currently going through treatment at Duke Cancer Hospital. Dons wife Mary-Ellen is driving back and forth from there home in Lumberton NC to Duke hospital which is 250 miles round trip. Mary-Ellen goes back home often due to Don's best gal Dallas his faithful and loyal German Shepherd. Don and Mary-Ellen are having to board Dallas while Don is in the hospital which is becoming very expensive along with the mountain of Dr and Hospital bills that are already piling up. Don was just able to start chemo. Dons blood pressure was sky high and the drs were unable to start his chemo for several days. Don has been told that he will be in the hospital for treatment for at least 30 days. Don and Mary-Ellen are both on fixed incomes and now with Don being in the hospital times are tough. Dons family is asking for any help that can be given at this time. If you're unable to donate we always will take prayers. The power of prayer is incredible. Don and his family would like to thank everyone in advance for the help and generosity and prayers. It is a blessing to have family and friends have your back in a time of need. God bless you all and thank you again.
