Monica Arnold (nee Faggion) is one of those people that everyone loves. She's the first to offer help, the one you call for advice and the best friend who would genuinely do anything for anyone. She chooses not to impose on others and initially declined my offer of a GoFundMe campaign, simply feeling that others may need help more than she and embarrassed to ask for the much-needed help of strangers.
At 38 years old, she is a devoted mother to her three beautiful children, aged 6, 4 and 3, and a much-loved wife to her husband, Edward.
Monica has been given a terminal diagnosis. The breast cancer she has been so bravely battling for nearly 12 months, through chemo, surgery, radiotherapy and maintenance chemo, has spread extensively to her brain, and she is now facing the rare diagnosis of Leptomeningeal Disease. Her time with us is now heartbreakingly short.
Monica completed 10 rounds of whole brain radiotherapy and has now completed three rounds of a chemotherapy drug called Enhertu. Her first scans to see if treatment is working are in early May. Enhertu will continue until the cancer progresses or the side effects from the treatment become too severe.
Monica has always been the one to show up and support others and now it's up to us to return the favour. Her final wish isn't for herself, but for the family she will leave behind. She hopes to ease the immense emotional and financial responsibility that will fall on her husband Edward, to allow him the time and space to grieve and to learn to be a solo parent to their three young children.
This is our chance to help fulfil that wish.
We are aiming to raise enough to give Edward and his children the stability they'll desperately need. Funds will cover the mounting bills and expenses, funeral costs, therapy for Edward and the children, and it will allow Edward to take crucial time off work to be fully present for his kids during the most challenging time of their young lives. It will give Monica peace, knowing her family will have funds to lean on as they navigate the next phase of their lives.
If you can spare just $10 (the price of two coffees!), together we can make a world of difference for this beautiful family.
Every single dollar brings Monica’s wish closer to reality and shows her and her family that they are not alone. Your contribution, no matter the size, will mean so much not only for Monica but for her children’s future and their chance to grieve with their dad right by their side every step of the way.
If you are unable to donate, please share this campaign far and wide. We thank each and every one of you for your kindness and generosity. Please keep Monica and her family in your thoughts.
