Please help this family get their baby the surgery she needs. After all they have been through their daughter, Violet, needs emergency surgery. Unfortunately, their insurance won't cover it all and the hospital needs money up front by next week. Here is their story in her Mother's words...
It started with my pregnancy. High risk because of the shape and position of my uterus, then the one vessel umbilical cord that required a perinatal specialist along with my regular Obgyn. Sonograms weekly as well as blood work. I was hospitiazed 3 times during the pregnancy. This resulted in $5500 in non covered services. We still have not paid. Violet was born May 18th, a magical little unicorn they said would never come. Within the 1st few days she dropped weight more so than normal. She vomitted regularly. Breastfeeding became a non option as I was not producing. At all. We began formula and the vomiting continued. Weight loss became an issue as it kept dropping and off to another Dr we went. she has an underdeveloped stomach. She can not process formula or food normally. She also has severe acid reflux. Several formula changes and medications followed. Her hospital stay in September was the worst. A week of torture. Black and blue from head to toe from IVs and Bloodwork. We missed work (for me unpaid as I used all my time on maternity leave). She wasn't allowed visitors or to leave her isolation room. They talked of IVs in her scalp because her veins were so blown out elsewhere. After being released we came to find out that several John Hopkins Drs were not covered and $1100 quickly got added on. Keep in mind this all does not include her monthly meds or monthly Dr visits for her stomach. At about 4 months she had her 1st ear infection. Since then they follow about a week after the antibiotics. So about every 3 weeks she's had one. She also has an ear pit which is a hole that runs into her sinuses. Apparently the ear infections along with sinus infections related to the ear pit have caused some hearing problem. She is not hearing at full capacity and they feel this will affect her speech if the problem is not fixed immediately and will have extreme long term affects like permanent hearing loss and a speech impediment. Surgery is scheduled for next week. They are requiring payment up front. Over $3k. They are hoping this will resolve the problem but if not, possibly an ear pit removal surgery will have to be scheduled later on. They fear doing it now as at this age it can come back and repeat surgery will be needed. She currently has a cyst over her right eye (they can't confirm if it is sinus related- but believe it might be a possibility). It is being monitored. If growth continues it will have to be removed and due to the location a plastic surgeon called in. That portion will not be covered either. They hope however that with the current surgery and release of fluid build up maybe it will resolve itself. Here's to hoping!
