My sister Missy Hines was diagnosed with Breast Cancer.
Missy's life for the past 19 years has evolved around teaching low economic Pre K and Kindergarten children in Monroe and West Monroe, LA. She is extremely dedicated to her kids and they love her for it.
What would have been her 20th year of teaching is now being spent fighting for her life. September 2014 she felt a baseball size lump in her left breast. Her doctor at the time thought it was scar tissue from a previous biopsy. Because her instincts told her otherwise, she pressed the issue and after receiving a second opinion she was diagnosed with Invasive Lobular Carcinoma in her left breast and Invasive Infultrating Mammory Carcinoma in her right. Cancer was also found in her lymph nodes.
Missy has just completed 16 sessions of chemo and is preparing for a double mastectomy in February. She will the go through 7 weeks of daily radiation treatments before reconstruction surgery.
For many of you who already know Missy, you understand what a special person she is. She is 48 years old and despite being terrified of the cancer and all the unknowns before her she has shown me and many others what true courage and faith is and how to stay positive. Despite the side effects - hair loss, bone and body soreness, tiredness, , chemo-brain, headaches & neuropathy she tries to stay active so the depression doesn't set in too bad.
Because these side effects and the fact that her immune system is low, making her more susceptible to infections, she has had to take the 2015/2016 year off of teaching. Money coming in during this time is considerably less and is creating a financial hardship. Missy needs concentrate on her health and not where the additional money will come from so she needs your help to pay for the unplanned copays, medicines, therapy and any unexpected expenses.
She has been very lucky to have such a wonderful group of friends who have already done so much. I want to thank you for your efforts. Please keep the prayers and positive thoughts coming. She still has a long way to go.
