Hello Everyone,
My name is Saira, I am 26 from Spalding, NE. I have 2 wonderful parents that have been married for 26 years, a 22 yr. old sister, and a 14 yr. old brother.
At the beginning of November my Mom started to feel a lump under her left armpit. She made an appointment and was given antibiotics for 3 weeks and the mammogram came back negative. 3 weeks went by and the lump was still there, so she scheduled another appointment. This time they drew blood, did another mammogram, and an ultrasound. The mammogram came back negative again, but on December 10th, we received the worst phone call ever...she tested positive for breast cancer. I couldn't believe what I had just heard. With having no family history of cancer, the mammogram results coming back negative twice, and her being only 44 yrs old; I couldn't understand why.
On December 15, 2015 we met with Dr. Peterson in Lincoln, NE and he informed us that she had Triple Negative Breast Cancer. I still remember this day like it was yesterday. I couldn't believe what the doctor had told us and all I could think was, "My Mom will beat this." Dr. Peterson told us that the cancer was already spreading since it was in her lymph nodes. Since this type of cancer is fast growing he told us she would need to start treatment right away. She will have to do chemotherapy, surgery, and radiation. Her chemo will be here in Lincoln which is about a little over 2 hours from Spalding and then will drive back home right after. She had her first round of Chemo on Dec. 22nd and her second treatment on January 5th.
The reason I started this page is because I want to cut my hair so that I can have a wig made for my Mom. I know she is having a very hard time with all of this and I want to help her any way that I can. I have been growing my hair for about 6 years. I cut 12 inches about 6 years ago and donated it to Locks of Love. Now, I am wanting to cut it again and have a wig made for her. Anyone that knows me knows how much I love my hair, but it means more to me being able to do something meaningful for my best friend; my Mom. Any additional funds will be used for her medical expenses as this will be a long process and the insurance will only cover so much.
My parents had also been planning a trip for about 6 months to go visit family in Mexico for 2 weeks that they haven't seen in over 8 years. They were supposed to leave on December 17th, but on December 10th was when we received the news. The money that was saved for the trip will now be going towards bills. My sister, who was living in Lincoln with me, also moved back home to be with her and help with her daycare. This is all new to our family, but I know we will get through it. These last couple of months have been very hard for my family and I; especially all during the holiday season. I just want to do whatever I can to help my family get through this tough time.
Please feel free to message me if you have any questions and thank you for all the support. This means so much to me and I can't thank you enough for taking the time to read my story and donating. Any support, prayers, and act of kindness that can be offered are greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Saira
