Help Rachel Recover

Allow me to introduce you to my childhood friend, Rachel. She is a remarkable character who always makes you laugh with her sarcastic wit and keen observations. Rachel and I met at family music nights and grew up in rural New Brunswick. We are the same age, 90's babies through and through, but our 30's haven't been kind to us. People who know me know my struggles which I won't go into detail about here, but those who know Rachel never imagined what life would have in store for her. Around 2 years ago, Rachel was diagnosed with kidney failure and became legally blind due to complications from her health. Since then, she has conquered many feats, including learning how to navigate as a blind person and even getting a job in the community to try to make ends meet. Rachel also regularly attends dialysis sessions to manage her kidney failure, transported in part by disability-claimed taxis, friends, or family.

She was getting on top of some recent health concerns and attempting to settle back into a work schedule when disaster struck.

In the early morning of December 14, 2022, Rachel awoke to her roommate yelling to 'wake up and get out'. In a panic, she rushed to exit but found part of her apartment, one she shared with other units, engulfed in flames.

Thankfully everyone, including her beloved old cat, escaped unharmed. The damage is still being assessed; Rachel was happy to find one guitar covered in soot but relatively undamaged, and some of the local contacts have already started to help by bringing her some bags of clothing.

Still, the essentials will need replacing, along with items needed in her relocation and rebuilding of her life. In addition, she has ongoing health costs associated with her medications, and her cat also will need food and other items. This fundraiser is meant to help generate emergency funds as well as longer-term funds as she adjusts to this mess.
