Selfless Maggie❣️

Donation protected
Hi, My name is Heather McGrath, and I am a teacher at Petitcodiac Regional School. As a staff, we are looking to support Maggie and her family as she battles stage 4 cancer.

Maggie Corey is a recent graduate of Petitcodiac Regional School, “Class of 2021”, is just 20 years old and is battling a very aggressive form of cancer. She has just completed 28 rounds of radiation and was recently able to come home for the first time in months!!!
At the age of 2, Maggie was diagnosed with Neurofibromatosis and has spent much of her life between doctor appointments, hospitalizations, and surgeries. Despite her medical issues, Maggie maintained such a spirit and passion for living, not only for herself, but always thinking of others. Due to this spirit and generosity, Maggie was awarded the Birk’s Medal at graduation, a prestigious award given to a student demonstrating not only school and community spirit, but selfless acts of kindness, giving and leadership throughout her high school career. The fact that Maggie earned this prestigious award speaks volumes of Maggie’s character. For years, Maggie has organized “Maggie’s Toy Drive” to give to children who are sick in the hospital at Christmas time, donating toys/monetary funds to the IWK in Halifax. Maggie and her family have always been givers, always humble in doing so, never looking for recognition.
In March, Maggie began experiencing weakness in her legs and in April, she awoke one morning unable to walk due to a tumour on her spine. Maggie required surgery to alleviate some of the pressure on her spine, but she is still unable to walk. In July, the family was informed that Maggie’s tumour was malignant, not typical of neurofibromatosis tumours. Rather, it is a mutation of the disease that occurs in 1 in 10 000 persons and is very aggressive. Maggie and her family were given a  prognosis of 10-12 months, their fears confirmed, stage 4 cancer.
Maggie has spent much of her young life in and out of hospitals. One of her wishes is to spend her remaining time surrounded by family and friends in the comfort of her home. Fulfilling Maggie and her family’s wish to be home is costly. The medical expenses alone for this family will be a minimum of $1300 a month in rental equipment to make Maggie comfortable. This amount does not encompass additional medical and drug expenses. Maggie has NEVER allowed her diagnosis of neurofibromatosis to define her. She continues to battle her current diagnosis with determination and a smile, opting to be a candidate for an experimental drug program.
At Petitcodiac Regional School, staff would tell you that Maggie was always the fount of optimism, taking on all tasks with diligence and a smile.
We are creating this GoFundMe to support Maggie and her family in fulfilling her wish to be at home with family and friends. No donation is too small to support Maggie's wish and to help the family focus on Maggie and to be financially stress-free.
