Monster's Road to Recovery

Donation protected
On the morning of December 20th, 2023 - Mit Vongsouvane, aka Monster, suffered a hemorrhagic stroke, an emergency situation in which a blood vessel in the brain ruptures and causes bleeding inside the brain. It can be dangerous or life-threatening if untreated. Thankfully, he was able to receive immediate care, so we were hopeful for a positive outcome.

Since his admission, his condition has been medically complex, and his stay in the neuro critical care unit has been much longer than expected. At this time, he has been hospitalized for a little over 5 weeks and during this time, major treatment options were recommended to have a craniectomy - brain surgery to remove a piece of skull, or to induce coma - both options are to decrease intracranial pressure in his head. While these options had their risks and benefits, they were invasive and extreme. We went a different route to heavily sedate him, but this option took a while. Along the way, there had also been other stressors that occurred which had delayed his leave from the ICU. And soon, we will be able to start the rehabilitation phase.

Monster is not able to speak yet, overall weakness due to being bed-bound for this length of time, and inability to move left side, arm and leg. The road ahead is long, and I will continue to be there to help advocate, motivate and strengthen him every step of the way. I want to give him the best chance possible, but many accommodations will be required for a successful recovery.

For those who know Monster or only know of him, he largely supported local Southeast Asian communities by sponsoring sports teams and your love for the game, your business endeavors, and personal passions. When you see or hear about his brand, Midwest Monstaz, it is about you sharing into a pot where stories and experiences exist with many others who are going through or have overcome hardships. Whether it be losing something or someone; it is also about the people sharing their successes and humility to uplift each other and love one another. Monster has listened and empathized with many people's trials and tribulations, watched people succeed and shared the same excitement. He would want for all to know how much he loves his children and loves being with them, as well as being around people and good energy. He always enjoyed being with friends and their children and meeting new ones along the way. So, it is hard to see Monster in his current state and going through what he is right now. My name is Cat, Monster's significant other and forever person. We have been together for many years, and I will be caring for his needs. If you are reading this and, if Monster and/or I have impacted your life in any way, please consider in financially supporting Monster's road to recovery. Your contributions would go towards the continuation of the Midwest Monstaz mission and merchandise, as well as funding for a wheelchair accessible vehicle and other financial burdens that he and I will experience during this life-altering time.

Your monetary gift would mean the world to us and with that, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Thank you for being the amazing, supportive community that you are.
