Hi, I'm Shawn's husband Don. I have a beautiful wife who just went thru her second bout of Endrometrial Cancer. She had stage 1 cancer in 2008 that required a hysterectomy. The doctors said no need for any followup checkups since everything had been removed and no chemo or radiation either. This last October (2016) Shawn was having stomach issues that became too painfull for her to eat so we went to the ER. They did a CT scan and we were told that she now had Stage Four colon cancer. We were floored. She had a colonoscopy a year and a half prior with nothing found. The doctors have since determined that the cancer was the same Endrometrial cancer from 2008 . A node had grown back at where her uterus was sewn up as well as having attached to the outside of her colon. So they didnt get it all in the first place!Still unable to eat the normal way, she had to stay the week in the hospital prior to her surgery. On Nov 3rd, she had her surgery and it was deemed a success by the doctors. They were able to remove everything that they could see.Almost another week was spent recuperating in the hospital and then she was finally able to go home. A Wound Vac came home with her to help the incision heal. She has a had a nurse visiting the house three times a week to change the dressings from the incision .Then on Thanksgiving Day she came down with a 102.5 degree fever and we went back to the ER which required another week of hospital stay. The fever was due to a reocurrence of an abcess from the time of the surgery. They had removed the drain before sending her home and without doing a CT scan. So they reinstalled a drain in her to help drain the abcess along with antibiotics this time and sent her home. As of today 1-9-17, the abcess has healed and the drain has been removed. Her incision has almost completely healed, tomorrow should be the last nurse visit and she will be able to start chemo soon. With Shawn not working it has put a financial strain on us and not to mention that we had just finished paying off the debt in August from her prior medical bills from 2008.Shawn has two beautiful daughters and two beautful grandchildren.-Don (her loving husband)
