Michael Ross, the love of my life since I was 15 and he 16, was exposed to toxic mold in the workplace. Specifically, aspergillus fumigatus. He has tested positive for gliotoxin derivatives which is mycotoxin of the aspergillus fumigatus. The gliotoxin attaches to the mitochondria and changes the RNA eventually killing the cells. He has been diagnosed with bilateral lung interstitial fibrosis and is scheduling a lung biopsy to determine treatment. After serving our country for 24 years in the United States Navy, he retired and began working for the government. We are at a time in our lives after raising two fine young men that it's finally "our time." But now we're faced with mounting medical bills and numerous doctor visits all due to workplace negligence. Unfortunately, the FDA has no guidelines for mold related illness hence our medical insurance won't pay for any tests or treatments. We are forced to travel to Dallas, 600 miles round trip, multiple of times to see a doctor that believes mold exposure is harmful. We have been told with additional lab tests and the lung biopsy it could be a survival rate of 3-5 years. Our worst case scenario, the only treatment is a future lung transplant. However, we are staying positive and starting with hyperbaric oxygen treatments. The hyperbaric treatment is to push out the mycotoxins from the cells, loosen up his lung interstitial tissue, and replace it with 100% oxygen . The treatment is $7,000 plus IV therapy at more than $300 per session. He will have to stay in Dallas for 3 weeks while being treated. We are in need of assistance with treatment, living and travel expenses. This is something you never plan for. Just when we've reached a time in our lives when life is good, strong marriage of 33 years, two sons and precious daughter-in-loves, five beautiful grandchildren.....now life throws us a curve ball.
