Shane Allen Simmons

As of late on November 29th, my uncle Shane Simmons, 46, has passed away due to liver failure.

Shane had been complaining of sickness for about 4 months. Due to his incarcerated in Easterling Correctional Facility (Clio, Alabama), he went unnoticed and was thrown under the rug (no surprise from this facility). My mother and Grandma have been fighting for Shane to be seen by a doctor, to only deal with employees at the prison who simply had no compassion and were highly unprofessional answering the phone. It took Shane passing out to be taken to the hospital to get the help he deserved. This was about a week ago when Shane was diagnosed with terminal liver cancer. He had been dealing with untreated cancer for many months, due to being undiagnosed. He has spent this week in the infirmary of the prison suffering with no family near which has broken us.

As this was a surprise for Shane, our family is in shock. Shane’s release date at the correctional facility was this coming January. We were desperate to see him back on his feet again, as he was showing progress and motivation. It is absolutely heartbreaking.

Every dime that is received through this Go Fund Me will go towards a proper memorial for Shane. For the family to process his passing in the right way. Our family being totally blindsided, we weren’t mentally or financially prepared for this. Anything helps and we appreciate everyone who has compassion for this situation. Anyone who loved Shane knew the kind of heart he had for his people.
