Matt's Fight Against Cancer

Dear friends, family, and kind-hearted individuals,

We have created this page in support of Matt, Becky, and their incredible boys Matthew (15) and Max (11). As our best friends are experiencing this in real life, tears will be dripping as this is written, so we please ask you to kindly read about their remarkable family and the urgency for our support.

Two days before Thanksgiving, they received the worst phone call of their lives. It had only been a few weeks since Matt had felt sick and normally, he would just brush it off like a typical sickness, wouldn’t we all? It felt different this time. They decided to see the doctor to have bloodwork, scans, and other tests done. The results came through. Matt has cancer and it has spread to multiple areas in his body. As of now, with many more tests to come, Matt and Becky would like to stay private with the specific areas of illness as they are still waiting for other testing to determine the final diagnosis and treatment plan. They are also trying to keep things as normal as possible when it comes to the boys and respectfully asking for their personal privacy at this time. We will be providing updates regularly as we continue to learn more about what is to come.

Matt has always been a source of love, strength, and inspiration to those around him. Not only is Matt the most amazing husband to his beautiful wife Becky and a loving father to their boys Matthew and Max, but he also loves and supports every person that has come into his life. He has been a very active part of the Jui-jitsu family for many years now, loving every part of teaching the DC Jui-jitsu kids’ program. What an amazing experience for Matthew and Max to see their dad mentor other kids. Along with this fun and memorable experience, Matt is fully invested in Max’s baseball journey and Matthew's tae-kwon-do endeavors. Anything that has to do with the boys, Matt is there no matter what. Matthew and Max need their dad to be there for them whether it be sports, high school graduation, college graduation, marriage, children, and as far as you can imagine. This cannot be the end and they need our help!

The road ahead is filled with numerous medical challenges, including possible surgeries, chemotherapy, radiation, and other specialized treatments. As you can imagine, the financial burden that accompanies such a fight can be overwhelming. The mounting costs of medical bills, medications, and frequent hospital visits are just hard to even fathom.

By standing together, we can help alleviate some of the financial strain and allow Matt and his family to focus solely on his health and recovery.
